The shadows she saw on the lawn prompted her to develop a technique, which however, did not paint the selected object onto canvas. It is more like the object has been transformed into the artist's own image which is based its interpretation from the artist. It is most effective for objects that are living or items that are perishable like fruits and people. Alexa Meade's painting style, which is very ephemeral in its nature, can be seen. The only thing of Alexa's art that survives is her photograph. Techniques of photography and painting are tightly coordinated, resulting in a flat, two-dimensional space which achieves trompe-l'oeil. Only certain parts of the image, like the hair or eyes, reveal the three-dimensional dimension. Meade sometimes incorporates painted models in the space surrounding them. It allows them to engage with the environment the artist has constructed. The line that separates painting and photography is removed.
