While she didn't go home with the "American Idol" name, Kellie Pickler was one of the show's best alumni. Kellie Pickler was born the 28th of June, 1986 at Stanly Memorial Hospital Albemarle. Her parents are Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. The couple had an aged 16-year-old mother. The childhood was difficult for Pickler due to her father's struggle with addiction for alcohol and substances while her mother left her in the early age of two. Morton kept custody of Pickler for two years but Pickler admitted that things were unsettling. "I recall that my mother and me were at the same table, and I said to her "I'd rather die than being in your presence. I'd like God could take me away.' She got the kitchen knife out and placed it on the counter. She then said: "Here you go." in fourth grade. She said "Of course I would never have done anything about the incident. It has nevertheless caused me a number of emotional scars." The court ultimately handed Pickler to her grandparents when she was 12 and Morton didn't show at the hearing. Pickler has cited her grandparents as the main influences in life throughout her entire life, was raised by them. Faye Pickler, the grandmother who raised her died of lung cancer in 2001. Her grandfather continued to raise Pickler. Pickler received her graduation diploma from the North Stanly, located in New London, North Carolina.
